Rationale for Using Tarot and Playing Cards

  1. “If I was to ask you what these were (display deck), you would tell me a deck of cards used for playing a game, which is completely right but they have been used for much, much more than that over the decades.
  2. Playing cards have a complicated, mysterious past. By the 1800’s they were used in Tarot to give readings. This was known as Cartomancy.
  3. In the 1920’s playing cards were used in E.S.P research to test for psychic phenomena.
  4. Cartomancy, or readings with playing cards, and testing for psychic phenomenon are the areas that specifically interest me”.

Shuffling a Deck of Cards

  1. There are more combinations in a properly shuffled deck of cards than there are atoms in the known universe.
  2. This means that a properly shuffled deck essentially has an original order that has not been duplicated since the beginning of time.
  3. This is Science; this is Math; this is Physics. (I pick up the 20-sided die billiard-like-ball resting on my table and look the sitter in the eye.)
  4. Like a finger print or the lines on your Palm, the order of a shuffled deck is as original and as unique as you are on a molecular level.

Playing Card Facts

“Playing cards are tied to our very existence in some very intriguing ways.”

  1. Two colors: black and red, night and day.
  2. There are 4 suits to a deck of playing cards and 4 seasons in a calendar year.
  3. 12 court cards and 12 months in the year.
  4. There are 13 cards to each suit and there are 13 lunar cycles.
  5. If you add up each numeric value of each card in the deck and add one for the joker you get 365.
  6. There are 365 pips in a deck and 365 days in a year.
  7. There are 52 weeks to a year and there 52 cards to a deck.
  8. If you divide 7, (the number of days in a week), with 365, (days in a year), you will get 52 which is the number of cards in a deck.

“The deck of playing cards is tied into our cycle of life more than most people realize. That is why they are perfectly designed to give readings.”

A prayer book, an almanac, gambling, magic, perpetual calendar; decks of cards have been used for many things.

Farmers used a deck of cards to calculate seasonal planting and harvests.

Each card represents a particular biblical story so every soldier who carried a deck of cards also had his prayer book.

But important to us is the fact that every card in the deck holds a special meaning to each of us.

A playing card can reveal its secrets to anyone. Tonight I’ll demonstrate how these cards can foretell your future, and you can learn to do it yourself.

Cards and Cartomancy have a long, rich, well-acknowledged history.

If we were to anthropomorphize the cards, what mysteries, wisdom, and insights would they have to teach us?
